Multiobjective Optimal Power Flow Using Particle Swarm Optimization

Power system must be operated in such a way that both real and reactive powers are optimized simultaneously. Reactive powers should be optimized to provide better voltage profile as well as to reduce system losses. The four objectives of minimization of fuel cost, minimization of emission, minimization of losses and increasing stability by minimizing system stability index, these are conflicting and non commensurable. To solve this multi objective problem Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to solve this Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem. The proposed algorithm is applied in MATLAB and tested with standard IEEE 57 bus system. The effectiveness of the proposed system is analyzed. Keyterms: Optimal Power Flow, Real Power Loss, Fuel Cost, Emission cost, stability Index and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)
